Notes: Markets were rocked in the past three years by events few predicted, including the Covid-19 pandemic, the Russia-Ukraine war, and inflation’s staying power. In response, stocks and bonds fell simultaneously with both ending 2022 deep in the red. The “crypto winter”, meanwhile, is in full swing with bitcoin down nearly 65% last year. Our emotions often are closely connected to how we manage money. This connection is even more evident during times of crisis. Being mindful of our emotions allows us to mute their effect or even harness them to one’s financial advantage. How can we identify emotions and bias, such as anchoring, risk aversion, overconfidence, and herd behavior, that are creeping into our investment process? How can we better apply behavioral science to active investment management?

Notes: Centuries of economic research and theory has been based around the notion that humans will always make decision with their own best self-interest in mind. However, growing research in recent times by behavioral finance economists seems to support the investing principals of Benjamin Graham detailed in "The Intelligent Investor". Biases, inherent and/or learned can cause investors to make decisions that is seethed in emotions and irrationality that makes it increasingly difficult for them to achieve their long-term financial goals. Let's hear from advisors that integrate and incorporate the principles of behavioral finance within their daily practices.

Notes: Current Forecast: Inflation and Other Market Disruptions The resurgence of inflation as concern for consumers, businesses, and investors has dominated headlines in our inboxes since the October 2021. Many factors have contributed to this spike, but the most significant and undisputed is the sudden and unanticipated imbalance between supply and demand among specific sectors of the economy. A prime example of this phenomena is the shortage of semiconductor chips that resulted in Toyota Motor outselling General Motors in the United States for the first time in history.
